Wenger – Ronald Koeman is under pressure but it’s always very difficult at Everton

Arsene Wenger has been excited and inspired after watching Arsenal snatch a hard-fought 1-0 victory from Thursday’s Europa League match against Crvena Zvezda.

The win, according to oddsmakers, favors the London-based club for this season’s Europa crown but Wenger says support and commitment will be required in their campaign for Europe’s second-tier success.

AC Milan grabbed a disappointing goalless draw against AEK ATHENS, thus placing Arsenal at an advantage for an expected victory that will earn them a direct entry into next year’s Champions League competitions.

Olivier Giroud scored a late goal to give Wenger’s men all three points in Serbia. With the important win,  Arsenal are now 5 points ahead of third place holders in Group H.

Everton have only 1 point, and are at the rock bottom in Group E after managing a 2-2 draw with Cypriot club side Apollon Limassol. Meanwhile, the Premier League side which stands 15th on the table, will face Arsenal on Sunday 22 October, 2017.

Arsenal are 6th but jointly hold 13 points with Chelsea, Liverpool and Burnley.

Wenger, 67, reportedly lost about two hours sleep between landing in London and granting an interview to Arsenal.com on Friday morning. The Gunners’ next match will be at Goodison Park, where they’re expected to impress against an Everton side which has had it rough this season.

Ronald Koeman’s team suffered defeat against Lyon in Thursday’s Europa League.

Talking about last Thursday’s win in front of a riotous crowd in Belgrade, Wenger said, “It is good to be in a comfortable position to qualify. You want to do the job as quickly as possible. We also wanted to respond quickly after our win at Watford with a positive result because it quickly becomes a burden. In a very heated atmosphere, it was quite positive.”

Ronald Koeman, he said, must be struggling with nervousness ahead of the match. “It’s part of our job and it’s linked with the last result. He has enough experience to deal with that. What you want to do in these kinds of situations is always just focus on how well you can do.”

When asked about Everton’s chances in the upcoming match, the French tactician who is Arsenal’s longest-serving coach admitted it’d be hard to access The Toffees from their recent form.

“Everton are a good side and it’s always very difficult at Everton. We just want to focus on ourselves and our own performance. That’s all we can do,” he said.
