Myanmar officials have confirmed that the missing military plane with 104 persons on board had crashed.

A total of 90 passengers were air force serviceman and their family members while the other 14 were crew members.

The military plane was declared missing earlier on Wednesday 7 June, 2017, before a navy search-and-rescue mission found its wreckage in the Andaman Sea, according to a report from AFP.

Four naval ships and two air force planes were used in the rescue operation.

The cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained in an official report.

However, AFP quotes an air force source as saying that the aircraft probably had a technical problem.

It was discovered about 136 miles/218 kilometers away from Dawei.

The aircraft was bought in March 2016 and had a total of 809 flying hours. It was carrying 2.4 tons of supplies, the military said.

No adverse weather conditions in the area was reported prior to the crash.

“Communication was lost suddenly at about 1:35 pm (07:05 GMT) when it reached about 20 miles west of Dawei town,” according to the office of military commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing.

The Myanmar air force has had a poor safety record in recent years.

In June 2016, the country lost three military officers after a military helicopter crashed on a mountainside.

A bit further before the June incident, a similar incident occurred in February when an air force jet caught fire and exploded at a distance from the capital Naypyidaw. All five crew members on board died in the crash.
