A young and pretty Chinese girl from Shanghai went viral online with her “selfish action” few days ago. The reason? She posted a picture of dishes prepared by her fiancee’s family for the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration, just to show her disgust.
It all started after the daddy’s girl courted a young man for a short time. The boy from an average family, decided to take the girl home for an introduction at the family reunion. It’s a good time for such visits in China when families return home in mass to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.
The two lovebirds had no reason to think the visit would bring pain and tears. It was a big mistake for the young man but an eyeopener, for it seemed he never really knew the true nature of his fiance.
The were compatible but not without money. The girl doesn’t believe in a “for better, for worse” marriage.
Before the fateful homecoming, they’ve shared their lives, money and everything together happily until the strange reaction from this good-life girl surfaced in the village.
Probably, she knew the boy’s family to be poor but she never expected a slap on the face with “poop”.
The boy’s family live in the village and depend on farming to survive while the boy traveled to the city after school, working hard to earn a living. It may not be right to call his family “poor and wretched” but they weren’t any match to the girl’s.
The dishes in the picture are “tasty Chinese foods” prepared from hard earned money by the boys family but “pictures say the words better”.
Interestingly, the girl found the dinner “disgusting”. In her explanation, “she has never seen such foods all her life”.
The best or rather, worst decision she made was to take pictures and post them online, expressing her humiliation.
Reports confirm the girl ended her relationship immediately and left in the next available train back to the city. How angry and sad she must have felt.
It’s a pity that we can’t chose our parents but we can make the best out of the worst situations to change our living conditions. No one deserves to be punished or discriminated against for family’s social status.
However, it’s sad that the modern society has no place for the poor.
“Poverty seem to be a disease, and wealth, another kind of madness”.
The Chinese New Year always come with big pressures for young and marriageable Chinese youths (aged 20 years old and above). “Their families torture them each year, verbally and emotionally, for not getting married. Those above 28 or beyond 30 are considered as rotten apples. Having a good job and living comfortably doesn’t change the situation.”
To avoid such embarrassments, most youths choose to engage relationship services from Rent-a-Spouse which provide fake boyfriends and girlfriends to accompany interested customers home for an agreed period of time. The couple would spend a short time together getting to know each other before the visit back home. Most suitors on sale are from U.S., Australia and Europe as whites command huge respect from local people.
There are many young Chinese people who have never visited their families in the past five years or more in order to avoid problems with the family. Some would rather remain in their locations than go home to face the embarrassment of being single.
