Girl, 11, gives birth to his 14-year-old brother’s baby

An 11-year-old girl who complained of stomach pains and was admitted for treatment at a Spanish hospital miraculously gave birth to a baby, and his blood brother is believed to be the father.

Reports confirm she gave birth to a baby boy of Friday at Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital located in the Spanish city of Murcia.

Her parents called in emergency services and told doctors they believed their daughter had a serious intestinal condition due to the severe pain she was experiencing, but on arrival at the hospital, medics discovered she was in the late stages of labor.

Her baby was born before staff were able to transfer the girl to a delivery room.

The Local quotes hospital sources as saying that both mother and baby were ‘doing well’ .

Manuel Villegas, the health minister in Murcia, referred to this case as “exceptional,” and noted that the region’s police and social services are conducting investigations because the baby’s father is thought to be the girl’s 14-year-old brother.

DNA tests will be conducted to establish whether this is the case, the minister said.

According to Spanish broadcaster Cadena SER, neither the girl nor her mother who are both Bolivians knew about the pregnancy.

“We have to hold our speculations until the result is released. There is an ongoing investigation, and when everything is detected and clarified, we will see what happened and if we can help in any way,” the minister said.

It is unknown whether the boy will be charged to court if he is found responsible for the pregnancy.

The age of consent in Spain was raised from 13 to 16 in 2013. However, underage sex is not punished in the country, especially in a case where the boy is of the same age bracket or stage of development.

Similar cases have been previously reported around the world. A 10-year-old girl gave birth in Jerez, Andalusia in 2010. Another report of an 11-year-old girl who delivered her baby sister in Staffordshire also made headlines in 2015.
