Trump claims US has drawn up 15-point plan to end war – but also send troops to region

Donald Trump has claimed the US has put together a 15-point plan for ending the war with Iran.

He hasn’t given any detail beyond claiming it involves Iran’s nuclear programme, which he said makes up the first three points.

Israel’s Channel 12 has reported it has gathered some of the content, citing a “Western source”.

According to Channel 12, here are some of those points…

A summary of the reported peace plan according to Israeli media

Iran dismantles its nuclear capabilities

Iran commits to never pursuing nuclear weapons

Iran doesn’t enrich any more nuclear material

All enriched material must be handed over

Existing nuclear facilities to be destroyed

IAEA’s role strenghtened

Iran will abandon its proxy model

Iran will stop funding and arming proxies

The Strait of Hormuz will be opened

Iran to limit number and range of its missiles

Iran will use missiles only for self-defense

Sanctions on Iran will be lifted

Iran to develop civil nuclear energy programme

The snapback threat against Iran will be removed

But at the same time, sources have told Sky News more than 1,000 extra soldiers are being deployed to the region.

Those troops are coming from the 82nd Airborne Division, according to the two sources.

The president approved the deployment on Monday night and the orders were being written yesterday for the headquarters, staff, and some ground forces, but not the full brigade, the sources said.

The full brigade consists of more than 3,000 troops, but this deployment will be fewer than half that, at under 1,500 soldiers – clarifying earlier reports that thousands of extra troops would be sent.

The additional forces could be sent in the coming days.
