It is said that in the village, “you see the woods and the trees but not the village; from above, you see the village but not the houses; and when close, you can hear the people but never see them.”

The village is better known as “the pit yard”. It is located in Henan province.

The village is on the Shan plateau, dotted with communities and scattered houses which makes it hard for visitors to think it a village.

A Patio and Kiln House was commonly known as “pit hospital” as early as four thousand years ago. The village now has about 100 underground villages distributed on the plateau.

Most house in the village at the moment dates about 200 years of history and have served as homes to six generations.

Also the surviving oldest person’s yard is already more than 200 years of history and has accommodated more than six generations.
