SpaceX: What Musk is offering beyond satellites with direct-to-cell capabilities

On Wednesday, T-Mobile US said that Elon Musk-owned SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket on Tuesday, carrying the first set of Starlink satellites that can send phone signals from space directly to smartphones.

In August 2022, the companies had announced that SpaceX’s Starlink satellites will provide mobile users with network access in parts of the US.

Other global wireless providers, including Japan’s KDDI, Australia’s Optus, New Zealand’s One NZ, and Canada’s Rogers will collaborate with SpaceX to launch direct-to-cell technology.

T-Mobile said the direct-to-cell service will at first with only text messaging, followed later with voice and data capabilities.
