UK: More than 100 flood alerts and warnings – resident finds out insurance doesn’t cover flooding

Some 22 flood warnings are in place this afternoon – the number has been steadily rising throughout the day.

These cover areas where flooding is actively expected to happen.

There are also 86 flood alerts in place, which mean flooding is possible.

• Bunches Brook from Broadway to Childswickham
• Chalgrove Brook at Chalgrove and Stadhampton
• Grendon Brook catchment including Yardley Hastings, Denton, Bozeat, Easton Maudit and Grendon
• Low lying areas close to Clipstone Brook at Leighton Buzzard
• Mill Brook from the Hagbourne Mill area to Winterbrook
• River Anker at Mancetter, Witherley and Atherstone
• River Chelt at Charlton Kings
• River Chelt at Coxs Meadow
• River Flit, River Hit and River Ivel at Shefford and Clifton
• River Ivel at Langford
• River Lee at Harpenden
• River Lee at Luton
• River Medway between Forest Row and Penshurst
• River Ouzel at Bletchley and Caldecotte
• River Ouzel at Leighton Buzzard, Stoke Hammond and Great Brickhill
• River Ouzel at Simpson, Woolstone, Middleton and Willen

‘It’s going to cost us’: Resident finds out insurance doesn’t cover flooding

Speaking to Sky News, one resident in a town badly hit by the flooding says they are dreading calculating how much it would cost them.

Leighton Buzzard has been hit hard by flooding this weekend.

“I’ve got no idea how much it’s going to cost, but we’ve found out there’s a clause in our insurance which doesn’t cover us for floods,” Sheryl Carter says. 

“So we’re not insured. 

“I don’t even want to think about it, to be honest. 

“I don’t know if it needs replacing, what needs replacing, we haven’t got that far yet. But it’s going to cost us.”
