Iranian parliament speaker mocks US for keeping troops ‘stashed away’

The speaker of the Iranian parliament has mocked the US for leaving its troops “stashed away in hotels and parks” rather than at military bases in the Middle East.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf suggested US forces would not be able to protect themselves if deployed on the ground in Iran.

Children among at least 26 people killed in Isfahan, Iranian official says

At least 26 people, including seven children, have been killed in an attack on a residential area of the central Iranian city of Isfahan, the deputy governor of the province has said, as reported by NBC News.

Akbar Salehi told the semi-official Tasnim news agency that seven women were also among the dead. He did not say who was behind the attack.

Salehi’s comments came hours after UN human rights chief Volker Turk warned about the civilian toll in the war, labelling some US and Israeli strikes as “reckless beyond comprehension”.

Escalation in Middle East possible in coming days, European leader warns

‌There are reasons to believe ‌that there ​could be an escalation in ​the ‌conflict in the Middle ​East in the coming days, according to Polish ​Prime ⁠Minister Donald Tusk.

“I ‌have reasons to believe, also ‌based on information we’ve received from our allies, ⁠that stabilisation ​is unlikely in ​the coming days,” he told reporters.

“On the ⁠contrary, a new ⁠escalation may ​occur.”
