DO IT RIGHT NOW: Rubio fires warning on Strait of Hormuz security

Still speaking to reporters, Marco Rubio is asked if fellow G7 members had given early commitments at their meeting to use their military in protecting the Strait of Hormuz after the Iran war.

I think they all gave a commitment that they understood the necessity for, and that there would be a need to participate in something like that,” the US secretary of state says.

The US has always viewed an international coalition for the strait as a “post-conflict necessity”, he says.

But Rubio then adds: “I don’t care what Iran says – the first few tankers that go through the strait after this operation is over, they’re going to want an escort from somebody.

“So the world better step up.”

The US is willing to be a part of the coalition for the strait, Rubio says, “but we’ve encouraged others to put it together.”

Trump says ‘we’re doing really well in Iran’

Donald Trump is speaking to farmers at an event on the White House’s south lawn.

The US president has mostly been talking up his tax policies and how he thinks they benefit farmers.

But he hasn’t resisted the chance to comment on the war in Iran.

Trump said in the last few moments:

“We’re doing really well in Iran, just so you understand.”

He also praised the US military.
