Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Microbiology, is seeking a dedicated Researcher II to join their team.

General Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, to set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Prepare lab materials including media and solutions, wash and sterilize glassware, sterilize supplies needed for an assortment of lab procedures, maintain lab cleanliness, order supplies, and maintain lab records.
  2. Assist in designing experiments and interpreting data.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Hourly Range: $ 15.50- $22.00

Qualifications

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in related field OR Associate’s degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • BS in microbiology or biological sciences and at least one year of research in a laboratory performing basic research skills preferred.
  • Skills in culturing bacteria, molecular genetics to manipulate DNA, biochemistry to prepare and purify proteins and cellular components, and analytical instrumentation including electrophoresis and mass spectrometry are preferred
