What’s in the 14-point peace plan proposed by Iran?

Donald Trump is reviewing a 14-point proposal put forward by Iran.

He has repeatedly cast doubt on its chances of success, describing it as unsatisfactory.

“They have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World,” he wrote in his latest social media post.

“I’ll let you know about it later,” he said before boarding Air Force One yesterday, adding that “they’re going to give me the exact wording now.”

The 14 points represent a counteroffer to America’s nine-point plan.

While a full list is not yet available, the conditions include the following, according to semi-official Iranian state news outlet Tasnim.

  • Non-aggression guarantees from the US
  • The withdrawal of US forces from areas surrounding Iran
  • Lifting the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz
  • A “new mechanism” for the strait
  • An end to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon
  • The release of frozen Iranian assets
  • Ending the Iran war within 30 days, contrary to the two-month ceasefire put forward by the US
  • Negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme to take place after the war ends, for a further month (Axios reports)

A previous version of the proposal included a condition that Washington recognise Iran’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, even if Iran agrees to suspend it.

Without the full 14 points made public, it is unclear whether this condition remains.
