Israel will buy two squadrons of fighter jets from the US, the Israeli defence ministry has said.
A specific number of aircraft was not provided, but squadrons can range from 12 aircraft, as in the British RAF, to 24.
Israel signed a separate deal with Boeing in December for $8.6bn to purchase a squadron of 25 planes.
Ministry director general Amir Baram said the war with Iran “reinforced just how critical the US-Israel strategic relationship is, and how essential advanced air power remains”.
The F-35 and F-15IA advanced fighters will be bought from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, as part of a $119bn plan to grow Israel’s military.
Defence minister Israel Katz said of the Iran war: “The lessons of that campaign require us to keep pressing forward on force buildup, to ensure air superiority for decades to come.”
