Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu has declared that his squad must brace themselves for an intense battle at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Meziesblog reports.

The reigning champions are set to chase a record-extending 11th continental title at the tournament, which kicked off in Morocco on Sunday. Madugu’s charges will launch their campaign against the Scorchers of Malawi in their opening group fixture, scheduled for Tuesday at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

The experienced gaffer is fully conscious that rival nations are eager to dethrone his side and claim the trophy for themselves. However, he has insisted that his players are determined to pour out their best efforts and retain the crown.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Madugu acknowledged the weight of expectation that comes with being champions. “Now that we are champions, every other team will want to draw you down,” he said. “It’s not going to be easy. We are quite aware of that and we are going to be fully ready”.
