Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

The Executive Director reports directly to the Foundation Board Trustees and is responsible for developing, evaluating, and implementing philanthropic initiatives for cultivation, solicitation and identification of regional, national and international gifts and partnerships. This person will help plan and implement strategies for foundation relations including solicitations, prospect research and prospect management.

The ideal candidate will serve as liaison between the university and the TSUF board of trustees, create the staff infrastructure for continued growth, and partner with the university’s VP for Development to identify philanthropic partnerships as a key growth opportunity in fulfilling TSU’s mission.

The Texas Southern University Foundation, a private, 501c3 with a mission to support the state, independent Texas Southern University, seeks a collaborative and strategic leader, with strong operational skills, to serve as the Executive Director.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects for major gifts and/or private partnerships (i.e., corporations, foundations)
  • Liaise with campus constituents to optimize philanthropic opportunities.
  • Work closely and in coordination with the VP for Development.
  • Supervise all private grant activity (i.e., budget, disbursements, accounts payable, payroll and reporting) and operations activity (annual filings, audits) in collaboration, where policy states, with university administrators and principal investigators.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of external and internal communications plans regarding Foundation activities.
  • Facilitate regular communication among stakeholders.
  • Build and enhance internal staff to accommodate the fundraising growth over the past five years to provide optimal service to internal and external constituents.
  • Work closely with the Office of Development to coordinate annual major fundraising events, as sponsored by the TSU Foundation.
  • The Executive Director will also provide Foundation’s annual audit to the president and Board of Regents.
  • Makes presentations before constituency groups for new partnerships.
  • Assists or coordinate with the media as designated.

Five (5) years of related experience, preferably working in state or federal government.
