Mike Tyson, one of the most charismatic and controversial boxers in history, once again recalled the bizarre day he caught his then-wife (actress Robin Givens, whom he married in 1988 and divorced in 1989) with a young Brad Pitt, just as their marriage was heading toward divorce.

The youngest heavyweight world champion ever recounted the famous incident on the podcast This Past Weekend when he was asked whether anyone had ever stolen a girlfriend from him.

“That’s an interesting story. He (Brad Pitt) didn’t steal her from me, but my wife (Robin Givens) and I were in the process of getting divorced. One day I went to her house… she wasn’t there. Nobody was home. Then I saw her arriving in the BMW I bought her. I thought it was one of her Head of the Class friends (the popular sitcom in which Givens played Darlene Merriman from 1986 to 1991)… But it wasn’t one of her friends. It was Brad Pitt,” the “Terror of the Garden” told Theo Von.

Mike Tyson pointed out that “he wasn’t Brad Pitt yet. I had no idea who he was… he didn’t even have a car”

Mike Tyson: “Brad Pitt looked like he might have been a little high—he was like a beach bum”

At the time, the now 59-year-old former boxer said of Brad Pitt that “he looked like he might have been a little high, because I know about that. He wasn’t the Brad he is now with the reputation he has. He was like a beach bum, kind of nerdy.”

“I was also scared because this was before The Matrix. That Brazilian karate stuff—trying to run but coming back. I figured I’d better stay away from that little white guy,” he added.

In his autobiography, Tyson revealed in 2013 that “you should have seen Brad Pitt’s face. He looked like he was getting ready to receive last rites.”

“You should have seen his face when he saw me. I was about to get divorced, but every day I went to the house to have sex with her. That particular day, someone beat me to it. I guess Brad Pitt got there before I did,” he said.

Brad Pitt had reason to be worried. In 1989, Mike Tyson was the heavyweight world champion and widely considered “the most feared man on the planet.”

Robin Givens confirmed the story but denied Tyson caught them in bed

Actress Robin Givens confirmed Tyson’s story, although she denied that the boxer caught her and Brad Pitt together in bed while they were still married: “That never, ever happened,” she said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Robin Givens filed for divorce claiming she feared for her safety and accusing Mike Tyson of ongoing violence.
