As we’ve brought you this morning, today is the first day of a new school year for children in Ukraine.
Earlier, we posted video showing children in Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih forced to start lessons in a bomb shelter.
We also shared the worrying update from Kyiv police, who said they have received a bomb threat relating to all secondary schools in the capital.
These pictures are from the capital, where these children are taking part in a ceremony to mark the beginning of the year.
Ukraine thanks outgoing Ben Wallace for his ‘outstanding support’
Ukraine’s defence account has tweeted a video thanking the former Defence Secretary Ben Wallace for his “outstanding support” for the country.
The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter), thanked Mr Wallace for helping to supply a number of weapons, including:
- Storm shadow missiles
- Challenger 2 tanks
- Starstreak MANPADS
The UK became the second-largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine under Mr Wallace’s stewardship, behind only the United States.
Mr Wallace has been replaced by Grant Shapps, who pledged to continue his predecessor’s support for the country.
