Gomez says by sharing her struggles, she hopes “others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
The pop singer told Billboard last year that she had undergone chemotherapy as part of her treatment for the disease. She made the heartbreaking statement at a time when fans are dying to watch her perform. Her Revival world tour in Europe and South America has been put on hold for now.
It remains unknown when she’ll start the said “break from music”, and a schedule on when her Revival world tour will be completed, is yet to be announced.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body and affects some 1.5 million Americans, according to the Lupus Foundation of America.

“I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges,” she said.
“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off . . . I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best,” the former Disney Channel star said.
MTV confirms that a large number of Selenators pulled together and created the hashtag #PrayForSelena, sending her some comforting words and photos of encouragement. Many fans are wishing their young idol a speedy recovery.
