Foreword by the Author
We are raising children in an age of confusion, distraction, moral compromise, and spiritual exhaustion. Never before has the family been under such relentless pressure from every direction—technology shaping minds before parents can speak, culture redefining truth faster than children can process it, and a world increasingly hostile to biblical convictions. Many parents today feel overwhelmed, underprepared, and deeply afraid.
I understand that feeling.
This book was not written from a position of perfection, but from a place of dependence on God. It was born out of prayer, observation, study of Scripture, personal reflection, and the growing realization that raising godly children is one of the most difficult and sacred assignments God can entrust to human beings.
In many ways, parenting exposes our weaknesses more than our strengths. It reveals our impatience, our fears, our idols, and our desperate need for grace. There are moments of joy and beauty, but there are also moments of confusion, failure, tears, and deep inadequacy. Every Christian parent eventually comes face to face with a sobering truth: we cannot change our children’s hearts. We can instruct, correct, encourage, model, discipline, and pray—but only God can transform a soul.
That realization is not meant to lead us into despair. It is meant to drive us into dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
This book is therefore not a manual for producing perfect children. No such manual exists. Nor is it an attempt to offer simplistic formulas or guaranteed outcomes. Rather, it is a guide for parents who desire to faithfully disciple their children in the midst of a broken and chaotic world. It is a call to move beyond behavior modification toward genuine heart transformation. It is a reminder that the goal of parenting is not merely raising successful children, but raising children who know, love, trust, and follow Jesus Christ.
Throughout these pages, I have sought to address both the practical and spiritual realities of parenting. We will talk about discipline, identity, discipleship, technology, suffering, culture, family worship, and the emotional burdens parents silently carry. But above all, this book continually returns to one central truth: godly parenting is impossible apart from the grace and power of God.
If you are a weary parent, I hope these chapters strengthen you.
If you are an anxious parent, I hope they steady you.
If you are a discouraged parent, I hope they remind you that God is still at work.
And if you are a hopeful parent seeking wisdom, I pray this book will help you build your home on the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
My prayer is not that this book would make you trust more in methods, but that it would make you trust more deeply in Christ. He alone is the perfect Father. He alone saves. He alone sustains weary parents and wandering children alike.
May the Lord use these words to encourage your heart, strengthen your hands, and draw your family closer to Him.
Grace and peace,
Chimezie Irobiko
