Jose Paulo Bezerra Maciel Junior, popularly known as Paulinho, has reportedly joined Barcelona from Guangzhou Evergrande after the Spanish giants paid his €40 million buyout clause, media reports confirm.
The 29-year-old becomes Barca’s third signing for this summer transfer window, having added the duo of Gerard Deulofeu and Nelson Semedo to Ernesto Valverde’s squad.
However, sources close to the club claim there’ll be no unveiling on Saturday. And the coach insists he knows nothing about Paulinho’s arrival at Camp Nou.
Valverde was persuaded by reporters to give a statement on the transfer rumors, instead, he dodged the question by saying all there’s to know is that no Paulinho will be in his squad for their upcoming Supercopa de Espana match against Real Madrid on Sunday evening.
“I can’t talk about unconfirmed player transfers,” Valverde said when asked to tell all he knows about Paulinho’s prospects with the Catalan club.
“Lots of players’ names are mentioned for lots of clubs and it will be like that until August 31.
“For the moment there is nothing, or at least not that I’ve been informed of.
“I have a feeling that Paulinho will not be playing tomorrow night against Madrid.”
Valverde is sure making some good investments with the large chunk scooped from Neymar’s move to PSG.
Paulinho played for Corinthians (2010 – 20130 and Tottenham Hotspur (2013 – 2015) before joining the Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande on 29 June, 2015.
