The circumstances surrounding the sudden death of All Elite Wrestling star PAC remain unclear, despite the release of new information from police investigating his death.
PAC, whose real name was Benjamin Satterley, was found unresponsive inside a vehicle in the parking lot of a CAVA restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, on September 27. The 40-year-old British wrestler had competed in Chicago the previous night at AEW’s All Out event.
According to a newly obtained police incident report, officers responding to the scene did not find obvious injuries or indications that a crime had taken place. Authorities have continued to say there are no signs of foul play, while the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to establish a cause or manner of death.
PAC Was Found Unresponsive Inside a Vehicle
Police were called to the CAVA parking lot after witnesses reported seeing a person unconscious and apparently unresponsive inside a vehicle.
Customers at the restaurant reportedly noticed PAC in the car and contacted emergency services. People inside the restaurant also attempted to locate medical equipment while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Emergency responders began life-saving efforts after reaching the vehicle, but PAC was pronounced dead at approximately 4:08 p.m. local time.
The police report states that the wrestler was found without any obvious injuries or suspicious markings. Officers did note what appeared to be saliva on the front of his shirt.
The circumstances were sufficiently unusual to prompt an investigation, but authorities have not indicated that they believe another person was responsible for his death.
Police Say There Was No Apparent Foul Play
The Des Plaines Police Department has previously confirmed that PAC’s death was not being treated as suspicious.
Investigators found no apparent signs of foul play at the scene, and the newly released incident report has not produced evidence suggesting that the wrestler was attacked or injured before his death.
An autopsy was carried out following his death. However, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said that the cause and manner of death remained pending additional testing.
Those tests could take several weeks, meaning an official explanation for PAC’s sudden death may not be available immediately.
His Phone Was Still Showing His Destination
Details contained in the police report also provide a clearer picture of PAC’s movements shortly before his death.
Officers found his phone inside the center console of the vehicle. Google Maps was reportedly still open and directing him toward O’Hare International Airport.
The information is consistent with reports that PAC was preparing to leave the Chicago area and return to the United Kingdom.
Police also discovered two suitcases and a backpack inside the vehicle. The suitcases were locked, so officers searched the backpack before taking the luggage and other items into police property.
The report does not indicate that investigators discovered anything inside the vehicle that pointed to a criminal act.
PAC Had Been Preparing to Return to the UK
According to information contained in the police report, PAC had been traveling around the United States for several weeks for his professional wrestling commitments.
He had been in the Chicago area since around September 24 or 25. His flight back to Britain was reportedly scheduled for the afternoon of September 27, although it had been delayed.
A woman who knew PAC was contacted through his phone after officers arrived at the scene. She reportedly told police that she had last spoken with him at about 1:20 p.m.
According to the information she provided, PAC had told her he was going to CAVA for lunch before continuing to the airport.
His phone’s navigation system was still directing him toward O’Hare when police discovered him, suggesting that he had been planning to continue his journey after stopping at the restaurant.
Death Came Hours After His Final AEW Appearance
PAC’s death occurred less than a day after he had performed at AEW’s All Out event in Chicago.
The wrestler competed against Andrade El Ídolo in an AEW National Championship match before making another appearance later during the main event.
His death therefore came shortly after he had been active inside the wrestling ring, making the news particularly shocking to fans and fellow performers.
AEW confirmed PAC’s death on September 27, prompting an outpouring of tributes from wrestlers and fans around the world.
The Newcastle, England-born performer had established himself as one of professional wrestling’s most accomplished high-flyers during a career that began in 2004.
A Career Spanning AEW, WWE and International Wrestling
Satterley became known internationally as PAC and, during his WWE career, performed under the name Neville.
He joined AEW in 2019 and became a significant figure in the promotion’s early years. He won multiple championships, including becoming the inaugural AEW International Champion and capturing the AEW World Trios Championship twice.
Before joining AEW, his WWE career included a reign as NXT Champion and two Cruiserweight Championship victories.
His athletic style and aerial wrestling ability earned him the nickname “The Man That Gravity Forgot,” reflecting his reputation for executing spectacular high-flying maneuvers.
Cause of Death Remains Unknown
Despite the additional information contained in the police report, the central question surrounding PAC’s death remains unanswered.
Authorities have not announced what caused the wrestler to become unresponsive, and the medical examiner’s determination is still pending additional testing.
The police investigation has so far found no indication of foul play, while officers reported no obvious injuries or suspicious circumstances at the scene.
For now, the circumstances surrounding PAC’s sudden death remain unresolved. An official determination from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected only after the outstanding testing has been completed.
