Ukraine “cannot afford to be trapped in a long-term war of attrition” and the longer the war lasts the more vulnerable it will become, military analyst Sean Bell has said.
Giving his latest thoughts on the situation on the ground, Bell said Ukraine’s counteroffensive had been “static” and the country was still waiting for Russian terrain “to be liberated”.
The more time that went on, he said, the more issues they would face that could stop “manoeuvre warfare”.
A longer war would also deplete the supply of weapons to the country and see the country struggle with troop numbers.
“They cannot afford to be trapped in a long-term war of attrition because that is something they would struggle to win,” Bell says.
The “harsh reality” was the longer Ukraine was wrapped up in a war of attrition the more likely it would be that they lose forces and “become more vulnerable”.
Speaking on the latest drone attack on Odesa, Bell said that ever since Vladimir Putin withdrew from the Black Sea grain deal in July, the Danube had become the next way of getting Ukrainian grain out and that seemed to be why it had been targeted.
