Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has stated that Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger is an intimidating opponent.
Rudiger has earned his reputation as one of the best defenders in Europe, owing to his superhuman-esque physicality and speed, as well as his defensive prowess.
“I like him a lot, he is a scary centre-back,” Neymar acknowledged in an interview with DAZN when asked about Rudiger.
“He’s very big and strong. Some strikers get a bit scared.
“I don’t, but I think a lot of strikers get a bit scared.”
When questioned about other defenders, the Brazilian claimed that Virgil van Dijk is very strong and intelligent.
“Playing against Van Dijk is difficult because, as a centre-back, he is very strong and intelligent,” he stated.
“He knows when it’s the right moment to close you down and when to come in for a tackle.”
The 30-year-old also had a few words for Manchester United’s Raphael Varane, whom he faced often during his time in Spain.
“He’s a very good centre-back,” he admitted.
“He’s quick and intelligent. His positioning is very good. He’s a top player.
“He hardly ever makes mistakes. That’s why he’s won so much.”
Neymar’s one-word answers
Neymar was also asked to sum up five great players in a single word.
He called Harry Kane “intelligent”, Karim Benzema “classic” and referred to Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez as “geniuses”.
Neymar also discussed helping Messi when he first joined the French club. According to the Brazilian, he assisted his teammate and his family in settling into their new lives in the French capital.
“It’s difficult to make a change like this because he spent several years at Barcelona and now everything has changed for him and his family,” Neymar quipped.
“It’s difficult, but I think he’s improving now. He feels at home.”
“I want him to have fun, and I want us to have fun together.”
