Here’s a summary of what’s been happening in the war so far today:
Fighting at refugee camp
Israeli troops have been fighting militants in an urban refugee camp, according to the Associated Press.
The frontline of the war, now in its seventh week, has shifted to the Jabaliya refugee camp.
Jabaliya is a dense warren of concrete buildings near Gaza City. Many of the families living there were originally displaced in the 1948 war which created modern Israel.
Israel has been bombarding the area for weeks. Its military says Hamas fighters have regrouped there and in other eastern districts after being pushed out of Gaza City.
Clashes outside nearby hospital
Not far from Jabaliya, there have also been clashes outside the Indonesian Hospital, where Palestinian health officials said a strike killed 12 people on Monday.
They added today that hundreds of patients and displaced people are trapped inside with dwindling supplies after some 200 people were evacuated earlier.
Israel-Hamas deal said to be getting closer
Senior Hamas officials, meanwhile, said they were close to reaching a deal through international mediators to release some of the estimated 240 people taken hostage by the group in its 7 October attack into Israel that triggered the war.
The talks have repeatedly stalled and past predictions of a breakthrough proved premature.
But this time, according to a source speaking to the Reuters news agency (see 11.48 post), a truce which could pause fighting for days is closer than ever.
Two journalists among three killed in Lebanon strike
Meanwhile, as we told you in our 10.32 post, in southern Lebanon, an Israeli strike reportedly killed three people – including two journalists.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.
