After accepting his Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy award, the famous introvert cleared his throat before an soul-shaking confession which started with gratitude.
Ryan also paid tribute to his wife’s late brother, Juan Carlos Mendez, who died of throat cancer at the age of 53.
Mendez passed away in April, 2016.
“While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” the 36-year-old actor said.
“If she hadn’t taken all of that on so that I could have this experience, it surely would be somebody else up here today. So sweetheart, thank you,” an emotional Ryan added.
The Canadian actor and singer held a secret wedding with his wife Eva. Both have lived a quiet life though reports say their marriage hasn’t been a bed of roses.
“To my daughters [Amada and Esmeralda], I love you,” the proud dad added. “And if I may, I would like to dedicate this to the memory of [Eva’s] brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.“
Meanwhile, Stone, who also won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for “La la land”, had a chat with ET at the event.
“It was interesting,” the 28-year-old said about relocating from Arizona to Los Angeles in pursuit of her dreams. “I was 15 … I don’t know, I auditioned a lot and I was grateful to be out here because I was so lucky to be doing what I loved to do. But it was an interesting time for sure.”

Ryan, who played a leading role in a 2004 romantic drama “The Notebook”, also spoke with ET’s Kevin Frazier at the event.
“It’s really nice to have an opportunity to publicly thank the people that are really responsible for so much of how you are able to do what you do,” a soft-spoken Gosling said in the backstage interview about his speech. “So, I was grateful for the opportunity.”
The Latina magazine also caught up with Eva Mendes for a hearty chat following her husband’s mega-win at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.
In her words: “Losing my brother brought our family closer, and we were already close to begin with. So to just see everybody be there for one another and show up, I feel so lucky to have them. And then they were there for me when Amada was born.
“We had a funeral service for him and that same week I had the baby. So it was really, really intense and obviously beyond heartbreaking, but also kind of beautiful.”
