The family of late Nollywood actor and comedian John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has revealed the severe financial challenges they have faced since his death, saying the situation has affected their children’s education and day-to-day survival.

The disclosure was made during a recent visit by content creator King Mitchy, who documented the family’s living conditions.

According to the family, Mr Ibu’s only daughter and two sons are currently out of school because they can no longer afford to pay their school fees. They also disclosed that the household has struggled to meet basic needs, including electricity and water bills, as the financial burden continues to grow.

Speaking about the situation, Mr Ibu’s widow said:

“We fetched water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They even cut my light since two months now. No light. Since then, we have been like that.”

She continued:

“Every night, we go to look for where to charge our phones and it’s not easy.”

The widow also disclosed that the children’s education has been interrupted due to unpaid school fees, explaining that the school recently contacted her over the outstanding payments.

Mr Ibu’s daughter appealed to Nigerians and those who worked with her late father to support the family during the difficult period.

She said:

“I want to thank God for my mom. She tried everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees and make us happy.”

She added:

“So Nigerians, if you were in the industry with my dad, you are seeing us now, come and meet us.”

The appeal has drawn renewed attention to the welfare of the late actor’s family, with supporters calling on well-meaning Nigerians to assist them as they work to overcome the financial difficulties that have persisted since Mr Ibu’s death.
