A food crisis is unfolding in Lebanon, where Israeli attacks are taking place, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Almost a quarter of the population, 1.24 million people, face acute food insecurity between April and August.

The humanitarian situation “remains fragile and volatile” despite the extension of the ceasefire, the agency said.

“The deterioration is driven primarily by the escalation of hostilities since March, large‑scale displacement, disruption of livelihoods and markets, and a projected decline in humanitarian assistance,” OCHA says.

“While food remains available nationally, affordability remains the primary constraint, as rising prices and declining incomes continue to erode household purchasing power.”

Access to water and healthcare has also been impeded by damage to roads and key infrastructure, OCHA says.
