It’s not just Britain where hot weather records are being broken; Ireland has also seen scorching temperatures today.
A record high temperature for May of 30.5C was provisionally recorded at Shannon Airport in County Clare.
A provisional record was also broken in Oak Park in County Carlow, where temperatures reached 29.5C today.
Ireland has felt days of hot weather, with the May record also being broken yesterday, according to Irish meteorological service Met Eireann.
Shannon Airport reached 28.6C yesterday, surpassing the previous May national record of 28.4C set in Kerry on 31 May 1997.
Met Eireann climatologist Paul Moore said:
“When we get a weather situation with very strong high pressure stacked through the atmosphere and sinking air over several days, the maximum temperatures reached can be higher than similar situations in the past, due to the increased background warming caused by climate change.”
