Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a 72-hour ultimatum and final notice to illegal occupants along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, following the monthly sanitation exercise carried out in the Ojuelegba, Surulere, and Kosofe areas of the state.
The Governor emphasized that collective action from both the government and residents is essential to achieving a cleaner Lagos. He ordered a massive demolition of illegal structures in the corridor and urged residents to play their part in keeping the metropolis clean. Sanwo-Olu also announced that an additional 150 compactor trucks have been procured to boost logistics and enhance waste collection across the state.
He noted that the state government is developing a robust landfill management plan to improve turnaround time for Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators. The Governor appealed to residents to pay their waste bills and discontinue the habit of indiscriminate refuse dumping.
While announcing the 72-hour ultimatum to clear the Lagos-Badagry expressway corridor and all illegal structures off the road, he insisted that the state government will not permit unapproved operations along the highway. “From next week, we are coming to clear the entire median. Everything there will go”, he added.
