Nigerian Army Announces Major Redeployment of Senior Officers to Strengthen Operations

The Nigerian Army has carried out a wide-ranging reshuffle of senior officers, announcing new appointments for General Officers Commanding (GOCs), brigade commanders, commandants and principal staff officers as part of efforts to improve operational effectiveness and strengthen national security.

The changes were disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, who said the redeployments cover key operational, command, training and administrative positions across the Army.

Under the new postings, Major General EI Okoro has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka. Major General WM Dangana will now serve as GOC 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.

Other appointments include Major General JR Lar as Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, Brigadier General OM Oyekola as Acting Military Secretary (Army), while Brigadier General I Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff. Brigadier General IB Buhari has been named Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, and Brigadier General K Rabiu will head Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

In the area of military education, Major General KE Chigbu has been appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, while Brigadier General U Ahmad will serve as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria. Major General SO Adejimi has also been appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, with Major General FS Etim taking over as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

The Army also announced the appointment of Major General SA Emmanuel as Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, a move aimed at enhancing the service’s technological capabilities.

The statement said:

“The appointment reinforces the Army’s growing focus on emerging domains of warfare and technology-driven security operations.”

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the redeployment of senior officers is intended to improve the Army’s ability to respond to evolving security threats and strengthen operational readiness across the country.
