The impact from an apparent Israeli strike on Iran is negligible, an academic from the University of Tehran has said.
Asked about reports of an Israeli attack, Professor Mohammad Marandi said: “They haven’t done anything.
“There were three quadcopters near Isfahan that were downed.
“There were no explosions. It’s a country of 90 million people and in no city have we had explosions.”
He added: “The only thing that woke me up this morning was an international reporter that called me.
“So, no, we haven’t seen anything in particular happen. Tehran is very quiet.
“I’ve spoken to colleagues in Isfahan, who also say they haven’t heard anything.”
Regarding the drones and missiles that Iran launched towards Israel last Saturday, Prof Marandi said 200 drones were “dirt cheap” and “not intended to hit anything”.
He added: “Those drones were a distraction. They were meant to draw fire. And that’s exactly what they did – draw fire from Israeli regime defences.
“The objective was to distract them.”
Prof Marandi claimed Iranian missiles – between 10 and 20 – hit their targets.
Israel has said 99% of Iranian drones and missiles were intercepted.
