Fully-funded PhD openings at West Virginia University, Dept of Industrial & Mgt Systems Engineering

Hello everyone,

I am going to join West Virginia University as Tenure Track Assistant Professor and looking for two PhD students to start from Fall, 2025. Please go through the description below and forward this information to your prospective PhD students.

There are two Ph.D. funding opportunities available that need to be offered from Fall, 2025 in West Virginia University at the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering.

The graduate student is expected to be working on projects related to the following:

Research Field: The student will work on research related to the application of Human Factors and Ergonomics, Occupational Safety, Neuromuscular dynamics and Cognitive brain functionality as well as optimizing human performance, augmentation technologies, such as virtual/augmented reality, passive exoskeleton, and soft robotics, and semi- and fully-automated vehicles.

Principal Investigator:Dr. Sarker is an incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at West Virginia University. She works on human factors and ergonomics, human-computer interaction, immersive technologies, operator’s muscle fatigue and stress in the workplace, healthcare and rehabilitation engineering. Her research focuses on understanding the integrative roles of biomechanics, motor control, and physical and cognitive function in accelerating the effective merging of the human body and machines, especially in the emerging physical amplification and rehabilitation technologies. Her special focus is on investigating the multifaceted effects of fatigue (both physical and mental) on humans and their performances in a complex human-machine system.

The goals of her research are to discover new scientific knowledge, techniques, and approaches and then instantiate them in product and work design processes to improve human ability and performance. She is currently working as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Edwardson School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. She has co-authored peer-reviewed articles for reputed journals, including Human Factors, Applied Ergonomics, Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology etc.

The principal investigator is looking for the following qualifications:1)Seeking/Completed BS/MS in IE/EEE/ME/BME in a renowned university, 2) GRE Quantitative: 162 and above, 3) BS in IE/EEE/ME/BME with a good GPA, and graduated within the last three years.
