The founder of Gaza Medic Voices has told Sky News doctors and medical professionals are being rounded-up and detained “en masse” inside Gaza.
“It’s been increasingly hard to get in touch with the doctors and the healthcare workers on the ground… but the messages that are coming through are grimmer and grimmer by the day,” Dr Omar Abdel-Mannan said.
He claimed a number of his friends and colleagues who worked in hospitals have been detained by Israel.
“It’s just extremely distressing as a doctor to see that my colleagues are being detained en masse.”
Turning to the medical situation for civilians, he said scores of people are arriving at hospitals dehydrated and underfed across Gaza.
“These [people] are essentially in starvation mode,” he said.
“That means acute illnesses will go up [such as] diarrhoea [or] cholera.”
He called on Israel to allow more aid in and take responsibility.
“It’s very easy to blame Hamas all the time… you have a duty as a government and as a military to actually make sure the wellbeing of civilians is [maintained],” he said.
