Communication services have been partially restored in Gaza, one of the region’s main telecoms company has said.
The besieged enclave has been in a communications blackout for the last two days, with most of its 2.3 million people cut off from one another and the outside world.
“We would like to announce the partial restoration of telecom services in various areas within Gaza Strip,” Paltel said in a statement.
The United Nations has been forced to stop deliveries of food and other necessities due to the blackouts, with the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warning there is a growing possibility of widespread starvation as fuel shortages continue.
Earlier today, Israel’s war cabinet approved letting two fuel trucks a day into Gaza to help meet United Nation needs.
But, the amount appears to be far less than what the UN has said is required to fuel water systems, hospitals and trucks to deliver aid – not counting the communications network.
Paltel said services were able to resume after “a limited quantity of fuel” was provided through UNRWA to operate its main generators.
