The Israeli military claims it has destroyed a weapons production facility in Gaza used by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) militant group.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it conducted the blast on Thursday after an operation that lasted 12 hours, which saw its troops come under attack.
“The post was a major asset for weapon production,” the IDF said in a statement.
“IDF troops searched the post and removed two trucks full of weapons, including Badr-3 rocket parts (a surface-to-surface rocket), UAV parts, and intelligence materials belonging to the PIJ.”
It also shared a video claiming to show the moment of the explosion.

For context: The PIJ is the second-largest militant group in Gaza.
According to the Counter Extremism Project, it was founded in 1979 as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.
It said the group is “dedicated to eradicating Israel and establishing an autonomous Islamic Palestinian state in the lands currently comprising Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza”.

An injured Palestinian boy has pleaded for someone to escort him out of Gaza after losing his entire family in a rocket attack.
The 12-year-old said he was “hit by a rocket” on 11 October, leaving his hands and legs severely burnt.
“Two rockets fell on us, we were all hiding together,” he said.
“My father was killed. My mother and my sisters were killed. All my relatives have been killed.”
He is among those waiting to be evacuated from the region and is set to be taken to the UAE for medical treatment.
But he said he has been forced to travel alone.
“They’re telling me to leave without an escort. It would be good if I had someone. They aren’t allowing someone to leave with me,” he said.
