Cadbury has been stripped of its royal warrant after King Charles was urged this year to withdraw the mark of recognition from companies “still operating in Russia” after the invasion of Ukraine.
Campaign group B4Ukraine named Mondelez, which has owned Cadbury since 2010, in its list of companies it was urging King Charles to strip of their royal warrant status in June.
However, Bacardi and Samsung were also named in the B4Ukraine list and have not been stripped of their royal warrants, indicating the decision is not linked to Russia’s invasion.
Cadbury was awarded its first royal warrant as chocolate and cocoa manufacturers by Queen Victoria in 1854.
The warrants are granted for up to five years and are recognised for providing goods or services to the monarchy.
Mondelez International said it was “disappointed” to not have a new warrant awarded but said it “fully respected” the decision.
Unilever, which owns consumer brands Dove and Lipton, was also stripped of its warrant.
