Jill revealed in an official statement that her husband died on Saturday surrounded by his family

“With the heaviest of hearts, we are devastated to share the news that our beloved Bobby Zarin passed away peacefully today surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer,” the Zarin family said in a statement on Saturday.

“There are no words to describe how heartbroken we are. Thank you, everyone, for all your love and support during this difficult time.”

Bobby was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in June 2009 and it returned to his brain in November 2016.

The couple celebrated 18 years of marriage earlier this month. At the time, Jill, who formerly starred on “The Real Housewives of New York,” gushed about the pair’s longtime relationship, writing, “Bobby is the most perfect man I know. He never loses anything, never forgets anything and when I think he is wrong … he is always right! … truly a Love Story.”

Bobby was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2009 and went on to have his thyroid removed as well as underwent radioactive iodine treatment.

“The radioactive iodine usually kills off whatever undetectable cancer cells are left in your body after surgery,” he previously told PEOPLE.

“We thought it was cured – and it usually is in about 93 percent of cases. But I wasn’t able to absorb the radioactive iodine. So it came back.”

An insider told Us Weekly in November 2017 that Bobby was “really fighting” as he encouraged his family to go about their daily routines.

“Bobby’s not giving up but there’s not much fight left,” the insider added.

He is survived by Jill, his three children from a previous relationship — Jonathan, David and Jennifer — and stepdaughter Ally.
