Belgium summons Israeli ambassador over bombing of development agency in Gaza

Belgium has summoned the Israeli ambassador after a Belgian development agency building in Gaza was bombed.

“Attacks on civilian infrastructure breach the principles of international humanitarian law,” foreign minister Hadja Lahbib wrote on social media.

“All parties must adhere to it.”

It is not clear when the building was bombed.

The Belgian Ministry for Development Cooperation says it is not aware of any civilian casualties and that the building – which was shared with Handicap international – should have been empty at the time of the bombing.

However, a spokesman for the ministry said officials in Belgium found out about it yesterday evening and suspect it took place on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the Israeli ambassador has promised an investigation.
