A woman who previously accused music moguls Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her when she was 13 has said that some of the allegations she made were false.

The woman, who was identified in reports as Jane Doe, made the admission in a documentary examining the allegations and the legal proceedings that followed.

She had previously filed a civil lawsuit accusing Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Combs of raping her at a party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Jay-Z and Combs both denied the allegations.

The lawsuit was eventually dismissed after the woman voluntarily withdrew the case. Jay-Z has consistently denied the accusation and has said the allegations caused significant damage to his reputation.

In the documentary, the woman acknowledged that parts of her original account were inaccurate.

Woman Acknowledges Inconsistencies in Her Account

The woman said she had initially told her father that she had been sexually assaulted after attending the MTV Video Music Awards.

However, she later acknowledged that details surrounding the alleged incident did not match other evidence that emerged.

She said that she had been at a party after the awards ceremony but could not accurately recall all of the events that occurred that night.

The woman also admitted that she had provided information that was not true when discussing the allegations.

Her admission has become a significant development in the controversy surrounding the lawsuit, particularly because Jay-Z had repeatedly rejected the allegations against him.

Jay-Z Denied Allegations

Jay-Z strongly denied the accusation and repeatedly maintained that he had not sexually assaulted the woman.

The allegations became public in late 2024 after the woman filed a civil lawsuit in New York.

Combs was also named as a defendant in the case. He has faced a number of separate sexual-assault allegations from other individuals, which he has denied.

The lawsuit against Jay-Z and Combs was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, legislation that temporarily allowed survivors of sexual offences to bring civil claims after the usual statute of limitations had expired.

Jay-Z later became increasingly vocal about the case, arguing that the allegations were false and that the legal process had allowed an accusation against him to remain public without sufficient evidence.

Lawsuit Was Withdrawn

The woman ultimately dropped the lawsuit against Jay-Z and Combs.

Following the withdrawal, Jay-Z said the decision confirmed what he had maintained throughout the case: that the accusation was false.

The woman’s latest comments provide additional context about how the original allegation developed and why questions emerged about aspects of her account.

However, her admission concerning false statements does not by itself establish that every element of her original account was fabricated, and the documentary focuses on the circumstances surrounding the allegation and subsequent legal proceedings.

Jay-Z has continued to deny wrongdoing.
