Wayne Rooney tenders unreserved apologies to England Coach and Fans

Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney has tendered unreserved apologies to his national team’s interim boss Gareth Southgate over some inappropriate images of him which recently surfaced online.

The late night photos were taken as he joins other players in celebrating England’s win over Scotland.

Rooney is said to have apologized to Gareth Southgate and FA technical director Dan Ashworth after stooping so low as a captain, for such messy night outings. He was accused of getting drunk at a wedding party, and the allegation turned out to be true.

The footballer’s late night behaviour after England thrashed Scotland 3-0 last Friday was made public by a report from The Sun.

Sky Sports confirms Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho was furious after news broke out that Rooney’s night out got complicated because he was in the company of England’s backroom staff. Their binge drinking continued until the early hours of Sunday morning, the report said.

Meanwhile, the England FA says it will review all rules and regulations guiding what players are allowed to do in their free time.

A statement from the football body reads: “All England personnel have a responsibility to behave appropriately at all times. We will be reviewing our policy around free time while on international duty.”

“Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published today,” Rooney’s spokesman wrote in a statement tendered on his behalf.

“Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.

“Earlier today Wayne spoke privately to both Gareth Southgate and Dan Ashworth to unreservedly apologise.

“He would like to further extend that apology to any young fans who have seen these pictures.”
