Position Summary

Visiting Lecturer position in Bioarchaeology and Human BiologyIndiana University Department of Anthropology and Human Biology Program

The Department of Anthropology and The Human Biology Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University invite applications for a one-year full-time non-tenure track Visiting Lecturer position with teaching responsibilities split between the two units. The Department of Anthropology is among the oldest and largest four field departments in the United States, offering B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. Human Biology is a large, successful undergraduate program that models a liberal arts education and offers an interdisciplinary approach to scientific issues related to the biology of human beings. Faculty within Human Biology are drawn from numerous academic departments across the College of Arts and Sciences.

The candidate is expected to complement and strengthen Anthropology’s archaeology curriculum and contribute effectively to the Human Biology Program. A successful candidate will teach 5 courses (3-2), including ANTH A107 Becoming Human and ANTH P200 Introduction to Archaeology in Anthropology and three sections of the same upper division course in Human Biology.

Basic Qualifications

An M.A. or M.S. in Anthropology or related field is required. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is preferred. Geographic area of expertise is open. We seek a candidate with expertise in technical and topical areas such as health and disease, human osteology, inequality, environmental exposures and adaptations, forensic anthropology, life histories, colonialism and coloniality, diaspora studies, migration, epigenetics, stable isotopes, data science, and ethical practices related to teaching human skeletal analysis. Area of expertise should have clear relevance to bioarchaeology and/or contemporary human biology. Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills, and documented evidence of classroom and/or laboratory teaching ability. Salary is commensurate with experience and full benefits are included. H-1B sponsorship is not available for this position.
