Wildfires Force Tens of Thousands to Evacuate in Washington State

Massive wildfires continued to rage across eastern Washington, destroying hundreds of structures and forcing approximately 60,000 residents to evacuate in and around the Spokane area.

Fire officials said the blazes have burned more than 600 homes, businesses and other buildings. Firefighters, supported by aircraft and emergency crews from multiple agencies, are working to contain the fires amid dry weather and strong winds.

Authorities have urged residents in evacuation zones to leave immediately and warned that weather conditions could continue to fuel the spread of the fires. Air quality has also deteriorated across parts of the Pacific Northwest because of heavy smoke.

Investigators said the suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the motive behind the attack while assisting victims and their families.

The shooting has renewed discussions about public safety and gun violence in the United States as authorities continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Trump Says U.S.-Iran Talks to Resume

President Donald Trump said negotiations between the United States and Iran are expected to resume today after he decided not to proceed with a planned military strike.

According to the president, diplomatic engagement is being prioritised in an effort to reduce tensions and address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security. Financial markets reacted positively to the prospect of renewed talks, with oil prices falling sharply on expectations of reduced geopolitical risk.

Justice Department Leadership in Focus

The U.S. Senate continues to focus on the confirmation process for Acting Attorney General Emil Bove Blanche. Ahead of the confirmation vote, Blanche rescinded the administration’s “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” a move that has drawn attention from lawmakers and political observers.

The confirmation proceedings remain one of the key political developments in Washington today.

Extreme Heat Continues Across the Southwest

Millions of Americans remain under heat alerts as dangerously high temperatures persist across parts of the Southwest, including cities such as Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Meteorologists warned that prolonged heat could increase health risks, particularly for older adults, young children and people working outdoors. Officials are encouraging residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and check on vulnerable neighbours.

Financial Markets Watch Diplomatic Developments

U.S. financial markets are closely monitoring geopolitical developments after easing tensions between Washington and Tehran contributed to a sharp decline in global crude oil prices.

Analysts said investors welcomed signs that diplomacy may reduce the risk of disruptions to global energy supplies, although markets remain sensitive to further developments in the Middle East.
