The principal and pastor of the Annunciation Catholic School have written a joint letter to the community after the shooting.
“We are navigating an impossible situation together at this time,” principal Matthew DeBoer and Father Dennis Zehren said.
“No words can capture what we have gone through, what we are going through, and what we will go through in the coming days and weeks.
“But we will navigate this together.”
They said all of the school’s staff are “physically safe and accounted for” and some of those injured in the attack “have been treated and released”.
“Please lift up these families and these children in prayer and surround them and each other with your love during this difficult time,” they added.

Flowers have been laid outside the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis after the shooting.
Two children aged eight and 10 were killed and 17 people are injured.

Pope ‘profoundly saddened’ by shooting
The Pope is “profoundly saddened to learn of the loss of life” in the shooting in Minneapolis, which targeted a Catholic school mass.
“He sends his heartfelt condolences and the assurance of spiritual closeness to all those affected by this terribly tragedy, especially the families now grieving the loss of a child,” the Vatican said.
“While commending the souls of the deceased children to the love of almighty god, his holiness prays for the wounded as well as the first responders, medical personnel and clergy who are caring for them and their loved ones.”
Pope Leo XIV is a dual citizen of Peru and the United States, and was born in Chicago.
