UNGA 81: Fubara Courts Global Investors, Highlights Rivers State’s Economic Opportunities

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has used the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York to promote the state’s investment opportunities and attract potential investors from Nigeria and abroad.

Fubara, who is participating in the Federal Government delegation to the international gathering, said the event provides an important platform for Rivers State to present its economic potential to the global business community.

The governor said his participation was focused on increasing the visibility of the state, particularly its opportunities in the oil and gas industry and other sectors with investment potential.

Fubara Highlights Rivers State’s Investment Potential

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the conference in New York, Fubara said the state was using the international platform to draw attention to its resources and create opportunities for investors.

“The issue is very simple. We’re trying to give visibility to the state and also showcase the areas where God has really endowed us in the oil and gas sector and other aspects of the state.

“I strongly believe that at the end of this conference and other side meetings, business opportunities will be made open and presented to interested investors who might have very serious and immediate needs to come to our dear state, knowing full well the position of Rivers State in the oil and gas industry.

“I also strongly believe that we are also going to make some inroad into financing and investors opportunities for our dear state,” he stated.

The governor said Rivers State’s participation in UNGA 81 was intended not only to promote existing economic strengths but also to establish new relationships with businesses and financial institutions interested in investing in the state.

Investment Promotion Agency Supports Economic Drive

Fubara linked the state’s investment campaign at the UNGA to measures already introduced by his administration to make Rivers State more attractive to investors.

One of the initiatives he highlighted was the establishment of the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency (RSIPA), which serves as a one-stop platform for facilitating and protecting investments in the state.

According to the governor, the engagements taking place during UNGA are expected to complement the work of the agency by opening additional channels for investment and financing.

“This is not different from what we have already done before in establishing what we call the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency. What we are doing here will also aid the programme of that agency.

“Overall, I will say that Rivers State will be visible and prominent in this conference and we will come home with some good investments for our dear state,” he stated.

The administration’s investment strategy is focused on presenting Rivers State as a destination where investors can explore opportunities while receiving institutional support for their businesses.

Oil and Gas Remains a Major Attraction

Rivers State’s oil and gas industry remains one of the central components of the state’s economic profile, and Fubara said the sector would receive particular attention during the investment engagements in New York.

The governor pointed to the state’s position within Nigeria’s oil and gas economy as an important factor that could attract international businesses and investors.

Beyond oil and gas, however, the state government is also presenting opportunities in agriculture, the blue economy, manufacturing and renewable energy.

The broader approach is aimed at demonstrating that Rivers State’s economic opportunities extend beyond the petroleum sector.

Rivers Courts Financing Opportunities

Fubara also said the state was looking beyond direct investments and was seeking opportunities for financing that could support economic development.

The governor expressed confidence that meetings held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly could create opportunities for Rivers State to engage development finance institutions, multinational corporations and members of the diaspora interested in investing in the state.

The engagements are part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen its economic profile and attract capital for projects and businesses.

Rivers State is among the Nigerian sub-national governments participating in UNGA 81, with engagements involving development finance institutions, multinational corporations and diaspora investors.

Government Assures Investors of Stable Business Environment

The Rivers State government also sought to reassure prospective investors that the state remains open for business.

Fubara said Rivers State is peaceful and stable and has opportunities spanning several areas of the economy.

The sectors highlighted by the state include oil and gas, agriculture, the blue economy, manufacturing and renewable energy.

The government hopes that presenting these opportunities at an international gathering such as the UN General Assembly will expose Rivers State to a wider network of potential investors and business partners.

UNGA Provides International Platform for Rivers

The governor’s participation in UNGA 81 gives Rivers State an opportunity to engage with an international audience beyond the state’s traditional investment networks.

The United Nations General Assembly brings together governments, international institutions, businesses and other stakeholders, providing opportunities for discussions around development, investment and economic cooperation.

For Rivers State, the government is using the occasion to emphasise its position in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry while promoting opportunities in emerging sectors.

Fubara said the administration expects the engagements to produce tangible investment and financing opportunities for the state.

The governor’s investment campaign at UNGA therefore forms part of his administration’s broader effort to increase Rivers State’s visibility among international investors and position the state as an attractive destination for business and economic activity.
