Ukraine takes responsibility for tanker drone strike – sources
According to Ukrainian security sources, Ukraine has claimed responsibility for the drone strike on the Russian tanker near the Kerch Bridge overnight.
The SBU (Ukrainian Security Service) said the “successful special operation” involved a sea drone and explosives and was carried out in coordination with the navy on Ukrainian territorial waters, reports say.
The chemical tanker was hit around 17 miles from the bridge that connects occupied Crimea with Russia.
Ukraine rarely comments on these attacks, but it appears to have used sea drones to target two Russian vessels in the space of just 24 hours.
The previous one struck a Black Sea Fleet vessel near the port city of Novorossiysk on Friday.
The security source describes the tanker hit overnight as “one of the most powerful oil tankers of the Russian federation”.

The SIG vessel weighs 5,000 tonnes and is among Russia’s best tankers.
Moscow has been using it to transport fuel during the war.
It was built in 2014 and is owned by Transpetrochart, which is based in St Petersburg. The chemical tanker was sanctioned by the US for providing jet fuel to Syria in 2019.
