The UK plans to announce new sanctions targeting Houthi financing in the coming days, Rishi Sunak has said.
It came as the PM made a statement to parliament in the wake of last night’s joint UK and US airstrikes on Houthi targets.
“We took extensive steps to address this threat to international security before taking military action,” he said.
He added: “Those who glorify the Houthis attacks are glorifying terrorism, plain and simple.”
He said the UK would not hesitate to launch further airstrikes against the Houthi rebels if attacks on shipping continued.
“We are not seeking a confrontation,” he told MPs.
“We urge the Houthis and those who enable them to stop these illegal and unacceptable attacks.
“But, if necessary, the United Kingdom will not hesitate to respond again in self-defense.
“We cannot stand by and allow these attacks to go unchallenged.”
