A UK MP says Vladimir Putin is “now more powerful than Stalin” and “Europe is at war”.
Speaking during an urgent question on the UK’s aid to Ukraine in the House of Commons, Tobias Ellwood said it was “very clear” that the Ukraine war would “move out further”.
“Putin is now more powerful than Stalin, trying to emulate what Stalin did in eastern Europe.
“Can we agree that Europe is at war? This affects us, this affects our economy and security.”
He urged the UK to show its support for Ukraine by “sliding” frozen Russian assets “across the table” to Kyiv.
Defence minister James Cartlidge responded that Rishi Sunak has been “clear” that he wants to look at how this could be achieved.
Social media apps ‘suddenly available in Russia’
Previously blocked social media apps including Instagram and Facebook have suddenly become available in Russia, Reuters is reporting.
The news agency said some of its reporters in Moscow were able to browse the apps without needing a virtual private network (VPN).
Russian news agency TASS also reported on Telegram that Instagram was available to “a number of users in the country” without a VPN.
Social media platforms were restricted in Russia shortly after the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
