Russia’s ambassador to the UN is addressing the security council in New York now, telling the meeting the EU and UK are “absolutely unfaithful to their word”.
“They cannot be a party to any future agreement on the resolution to the Ukrainian crisis whatsoever,” Vasily Nebenzya adds.
“They are blinded by primitive Russophobia, their maniacal desire to inflict defeat on our country, on the battlefield, using the Ukrainians who are left alive.”
He’s now giving scathing remarks about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The “self-proclaimed” president – as he calls him – “dragged the country into conflict”.
He describes Zelenskyy as a “professional Ukrainian comic” – referring to his former career – and says he is “deathly afraid of elections” and is doing “everything possible to drag them out”.
Ukraine needs to be a “demilitarised, neutral state” and “not a part of any blocs or alliances”, he adds.
For context: Russia began the war in Ukraine when it invaded three years ago and has consistently launched attacks across the country.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, has been in power in one form or another since 2000 after a series of elections widely criticised by observers as neither fair nor free.
‘Peace cannot last without Ukraine having a say’
A US senator and former CIA officer has called on the Trump administration to involve Ukraine in its peace talks with Russia.
Speaking during an interview with Sky News earlier, Democrat Elissa Slotkin said: “You can’t have a conversation about some sort of deal in Ukraine without the Ukrainians at the table.
“To me, it seems like a recipe for a peace that does not last, if it even comes to fruition.”

Slotkin accused Trump officials of not “speaking in one voice” and said she believed they were “figuring it out in real time”.
She said this had created “confusion” both domestically and abroad about what current US foreign policy is.
When asked about the potential deployment of US troops in Ukraine to support a peace deal, she said: “I still think all options are on the table. It depends what day you catch Donald Trump – you might get a different view.”
