No one will impose peace deal on Ukraine

We’re getting some remarks from the US special envoy to Ukraine now.

Speaking to reporters at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, Keith Kellogg insisted nobody will impose a peace deal on Volodymyr Zelenskyy, adding he and Ukraine will make that call.

The US will hear “discussion points” from everyone, he said, adding it is their job to facilitate security guarantees for Ukraine.

A trip to Ukraine is still being finalised, he added, and he will meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Earlier, Zelenskyy told NBC News he would “never accept any decisions” between the US and Russia without Ukraine’s involvement.

“This is the war in Ukraine, against us, and it’s our human losses,” he added.

No country should accept Putin’s preconditions, warns UK’s envoy to UN

More now from the UN Security Council, where earlier the Russian ambassador said the UK and EU cannot be part of the “Ukraine resolution”.

As we reported earlier, Vasily Nebenzya said they are “blinded by primitive Russophobia, their maniacal desire to inflict defeat on our country, on the battlefield, using the Ukrainians who are left alive”.

Dame Barbara Woodward, the UK’s ambassador to the UN, has just said the world must “stand firm in support of peace and security”.

“Putin’s so-called preconditions for talks… have been that Ukraine withdraw from its own sovereign territory and abandon its sovereign right to choose its alliances – no country could or should accept this,” she said.

“Putin has shown time and again that he will break a weak deal.”

NATO ’emphasises value’ of talks with US over Ukraine’s future

We reported earlier on comments by Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy to Ukraine, at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

He insisted that nobody would impose a peace deal on Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and vowed to listen to “discussion points” from all parties.

NATO has now issued a statement about Mr Kellogg’s visit and meeting with its secretary general Mark Rutte, along with other officials.

A spokesman for the military alliance said Mr Rutte had “emphasised the value of the extensive, ongoing consultations with the US administration” and had “underscored the importance of a just and lasting resolution to the conflict”.

Mr Rutte reportedly said the meeting had “provided yet another opportunity to align thinking on how best to support a sustainable peace.”

Following the meeting with NATO officials this morning, Mr Rutte travelled to Paris for the summit with fellow European leaders and senior figures.
