President Donald Trump on Monday celebrated the steady decline in gasoline and crude oil prices, attributing the downward trend to his administration’s policies in the wake of the U.S.-led campaign to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program.

“GAS PRICES COMING DOWN, FAST!” Trump wrote Monday morning on Truth Social. “REPORT ANY ABUSES AT RETAIL LEVEL!!!” In a follow-up post, the president highlighted the price of West Texas Intermediate crude, writing: “WTI CRUDE – $69, and heading down. This is less than it was prior to the start of the Denuclearization of Iran!”

Trump has consistently argued that decisive U.S. military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, followed by a diplomatic accord aimed at regional stabilization, would ultimately alleviate concerns over global energy supplies rather than push prices higher. Oil markets initially spiked during the military conflict as traders feared potential disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil. Analysts had warned that any prolonged closure of the strait could send crude prices sharply higher. Instead, oil prices have retreated as fears of a sustained supply disruption have eased and commercial shipping has continued through the region.

WTI crude traded near $69 per barrel Monday, down from above $75 during the height of the conflict. Gasoline prices have also edged lower in recent days, reflecting the decline in crude oil prices, which are the largest component of retail fuel costs. Industry analysts have noted that lower wholesale prices typically take several days to fully filter through to gas stations, though regional differences can persist because of taxes, transportation costs, and local competition. Trump encouraged consumers to report stations that fail to pass along lower wholesale costs.

The president has frequently argued that affordable energy is central to lowering inflation and reducing costs for American families and businesses. His administration has also promoted expanded domestic energy production while emphasizing stability in global oil markets. Energy analysts say gasoline prices remain sensitive to seasonal demand, refinery operations, and geopolitical developments. However, the easing of tensions surrounding Iran and the continued movement of oil through the Strait of Hormuz have reduced immediate concerns about supply shortages. Trump has maintained that the combination of a stronger U.S. energy sector and greater stability in the Middle East will continue putting downward pressure on fuel prices, providing relief to consumers during the busy summer driving season.
